Jedidiah is the name of the high school ministry at Peninsula Bible Church. The name emerged from the story of David and Bathsheba in 2 Samuel 11-12. It’s a story of the triumph of God’s great persistent love when David’s human nature tests it. On the other side of the pride, adultery, lies, and murder, God grants David and Bathsheba a son who they name Solomon, but God instead calls him Jedidiah, which means “loved by God”. The story tells of a love that remains firm when there are legitimate reasons for it to waiver, a love that can forgive even the most grievous actions. We decided to call the high school ministry at PBC Jedidiah because we want every high school student that we encounter to know that there is a God who is crazy in love with them with that same unwavering love he showed to David. We want them to know that each of them are Jedidiah; each of them are loved by God.
Our prayer for high school students is the same as Paul’s prayer for the Ephesian church, that they, “being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the saints, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge- that [they] may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.” (Eph. 3:17b-19) We believe that it is the power of God’s love for us, which is the gospel, that is able to transform our lives and allow us to reciprocate God’s love and to love others, which are the most important things to God according to Mark 12:28-30.
It is because of this conviction that we are committed to faithfully teaching the word of God to students, to being another physical manifestation of God’s love for students, and to encouraging each student to love others because of God’s love for them through community service, participation in social justice causes, and by sharing the love of Christ with the people around them.
We gather together to worship and to experience God’s Word on Sunday mornings and Wednesday evenings in the high school room. We also take fun trips, go to camps and have other fun activities throughout the year in order to provide safe, fun ways for students of all types to interact with God’s love and God’s people. Check out the videos and pictures of some of the things we’ve done.
